THE CHALLANGE: Unauthorized Individual on Railway Tracks – High-pressure situation with a lot of technical precision.

Incident Summary:

Upon notification from the Mobile Operations Manager (MOM) regarding a British Transport Police (BTP) report of a male trespasser on the tracks heading toward Pentrebach, an officer was dispatched to Merthyr Station.

Operational Chronology:

Operational Chronology:

  • Deployment: Within two minutes of arrival, a drone was deployed to locate the individual.

  • Detection: The individual was identified approximately 1,700 feet (0.3 miles) from the station, walking along the center of the tracks. This location was approximately half a mile from the last reported sighting.

  • Communication: Coordinates and visual updates were immediately relayed to the MOM and on-site personnel.

  • Surveillance: To prevent alarming the individual and risking further flight, the officer maintained discreet aerial surveillance from a distance. During this phase, the Plymouth Street Road Rail Access Point (RRAP) was identified as the primary entry point for recovery.

  • Intervention: Navigation Security Response personnel arrived to provide perimeter support. Live footage was transmitted to the BTP, paramedics, and the MOM to coordinate the intercept.

Resolution:

As responders entered the tracks, they were provided with real-time distance updates (approx. 150–200 feet) near the rear of the VW garage. This allowed for a swift and precise location. The individual was safely intercepted and escorted off the tracks by paramedics without further incident.
